Coming to Houston, TX in 2025

Our Mission

We exist to make disciples of Jesus for the renewal of Houston.

Our Pastor

Meet Richmond

Richmond serves as the Lead Pastor and planter of Sanctuary Church. He’s passionate about seeing the church be both grounded in the word of God and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. His prayer is for Sanctuary Church to become a Spirit-led, disciple-making church with an underlying desire to have a culture of prayer for revival and spiritual awakening in Houston.

He and McKinzie met freshman year of college at Texas A&M and they’ve been married since 2015. They now have three young daughters: Hadley, Tatum, and Harper. They’ve lived in the Spring Branch area of Houston for nearly 10 years and have a deep love for this community.

Before planting Sanctuary Church, Richmond was on staff at Christ Community Church for nine years where he served as the youth pastor and then executive pastor. He graduated with a finance degree from A&M and then a Th.M from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Why Sanctuary Church?

the meaning behind our name

The name Sanctuary Church captures our heart to be a church and a people who seek God’s presence and power for our church and for our city. We long to be a church that puts worship and prayer at the center of all that we do. We want to be a place of refuge for our community where the lost and weary can find hope and rest in God.

In the Old Testament, the sanctuary was the center of worship and prayer for the nation of Israel where people would encounter God’s tangible presence. At Pentecost the Holy Spirit descended and filled all of the believers. The presence of God is no longer confined to the physical sanctuary because we’ve become a temple for his presence and we are growing into a dwelling place for God.

Prayer. Presence. Worship. Refuge. Power of the Spirit.

This is what we hope people experience in the life of our community. This is the fertile soil that leads to gospel growth and bearing fruit.

01

Pray

We want to lay a foundation of prayer for all that God would do through our church. No amount of strategy or planning can replace the need for the Spirit of God to move in power in our church.

02

Give

We see a pattern of gospel partnership in the New Testament and all throughout history where people financially support efforts to plant new churches.

We are praying for God to raise up people who are willing to invest kingdom resources towards kingdom work.

“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.”

Psalm 63:1-2
